THE WISDOM OF THE BODY | 3 DAY ASHTANGA YOGA IMMERSION WITH LUCY CRAWFORD

Friday 28 – Sunday 30 November

If you’ve not met Lucy before, let me tell you a little about her…

Lucy is an experienced Ashtanga teacher with over three decades of practice behind her. She has trained extensively in fascia, bodywork and movement – and that depth of knowledge shines through in her teaching.

What’s so special about Lucy is the way she combines strength and clarity with gentleness and genuine care. She has a way of meeting you exactly where you are, reminding us that yoga isn’t about performance – it’s a lifelong practice that continues to evolve.

Whether you’re curious about the body, looking to deepen your understanding of Ashtanga, or simply want to experience practice with someone who truly knows this path, you’ll get so much from this weekend of practice with her.

Lucy will be sharing morning assisted self-practice sessions Friday to Sunday, a very special yoga teachers workshop and TWO exciting weekend workshops.

We’d love you to join us! Details below…

WEEKEND WORKSHOP SERIES

Workshop 1 | Finding Your Foundation: The Foot in Practice

Saturday 4 October (2pm – 4pm)

In this first workshop, Lucy will introduce the fascinating structure of the foot – its bones, fascia and the intricate movements that support us in yoga and in life. Using a set of elasticated foot bones she’ll demonstrate how the bones articulate and move during both pronation and supination, and what drives these actions.

You’ll explore how movements can be initiated either through the foot’s contact with the ground or from the ankle, led by the tibia and fibula as they move the talus bone – the “caged bone” at the heart of your study. Through both palpation and movement you’ll observe these patterns in yourself and others, working with Surya Namaskara and a selection of standing postures including Padangusthasana, Padhahastasana, Trikonasana A & B, Virabhadrasana A & B and Utthita Padangusthasana.

You’ll work with a series of playful explorations of the ankle during squatting and experiment with supination and pronation in different poses to notice what changes in your grounding, stability and support.

Expect a hands-on, experiential afternoon that will bring new life to your practice.

Workshop 2 | From the Ground Up: Walking, Knees & the Kinetic Chain

Sunday 5 October (2pm – 4pm)

How can you support your body with more conscious listening to something we do without thought most of the time?

This second workshop continues the theme, shifting your focus to the simple yet complex process of walking and how greater awareness in movement can transform the way you stand, walk and practise.

Through conscious movement explorations you’ll study how the foot, ankle, knee and hip connect into the sacrum and spine during walking, jumping and asana. You’ll look closely at how the tibia, which carries about 90% of the body’s weight when standing, works with the foot through a series of movements – from heel contact, to grounding (pronation), to re-supination and push-off.

You’ll explore how the knee is often a place of compensation – affected from above by the hip and from below by the tibia. You’ll investigate rotational movements at the knee, both those initiated from the foot upwards and from the hip downwards, and see how restrictions in either area can create compensatory movements at the knee joint. You’ll also briefly visit the role of the sacroiliac joints in this kinetic and fascial chain.

Lucy will guide you through a range of asana to bring these concepts to life, offering a deeper understanding of how the whole body works together in motion.
